Love INC exists to mobilize our local churches and help them serve needs in the community that are not already covered through other agencies or programs. Each summer, as the school year creeps closer, we receive many calls from parents or school social workers looking for support to meet the uniform requirements.
For the third school year in a row, the “Threadz” ministry at Gurnee Community Church provided new uniforms – 2 pairs of pants and 3 shirts – to kids in Waukegan schools. In all, 90 kids from 34 families were able to cut the tags off of new school clothing to start their year! (Remember that excitement?!)
The Threadz team is passionate about wrapping the kids and their families in love through these articles of clothing. The families were invited to the church for a fitting party, where the kids could try on the clothing and be sure the pieces would fit. The team quickly learned that a size 10 pant at one store is not the same as the other! What to do? Enter the talented seamstresses of the church…59 of the kids had their pants hemmed by our Threadz team seamstresses – that’s 118 pairs of pants or 236 pant legs!
We are so thankful for the Threadz team and congregation of Gurnee Community Church for answering God’s call to love these kids!
